Using Intel® SSDs for Greater Storage Capacity, Data Center Gains

Sohu company switched to Intel® X25-V Value Solid State Drive storage solution at its data center to reduce total cost of ownership by up to 16 percent.

Challenges
Optimize the storage capacity of search servers. Sohu needed to improve the storage capacity of its search servers by releasing three hard disks used as system disks and re-purposing them as data storage disks.
•Enhance the reliability of search servers. Sohu wanted to improve the performance stability of its search servers to deliver better services to online users.
• Improve overall system performance of the servers. Sohu needed to improve the computing and data reading/writing ability of the data cache in its search servers during peak search hours.

Solutions
• Deploy Intel® X25-V Value Solid State Drives. Replace the three SAS hard disk array in the search server with one Intel® X25-V Value Solid State Drive, and re-purpose the three hard disks by using them as data storage for the servers.

Impact
• Increased server storage capacity. Adding one Intel® X25-V Value Solid State Drive as the system drive allowed three SAS hard disks per server to be redeployed as data storage without the need for further financial expenditure , thus increasing storage capacity in the data center. This reduced total cost of ownership (TCO) up to 16 percent while increasing the storage capacity of the search servers 1.3 times from the original system configuration.
• Reduced downtime. With the addition of the Intel® X25-V Value Solid State Drive, the servers are running more reliably and are more stable.
